Checking in

OK so December is nearly over and we've only written 3 posts all month! Like I mentioned earlier, we've been super focused on shoppe stuff for the past few weeks... but here's a little peek at what else we've been up to.

Packing/shipping

Eating crappy food

Walking around Chinatown

Going to the aquarium

Making beeswax candles

The most exciting thing for me was hearing Derek on NPR's Forum this past Thursday, speaking about DIY Holiday Gifts. Click here to listen!

We have also been posting visual inspiration to our personal blogs, (here and here) and trying to keep up with our weekly Twin Peaks viewing parties (we'll take any excuse possible to watch TV while eating pie and drinking coffee).

But we are most excited about how we will be spending our last week of the year- in a log cabin near the Russian River. As soon as we saw this picture of the red dutch door, we were sold. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Finally..... Photo Assignment: Time

Aaaah.... the life of a shoppe owner during the holidays! Unfortunately we haven't had any time this month to think about anything else- especially this past week. But finally... here is this week's photo assignment, 3 days late. Thanks to everyone who submitted a photo! We'll be taking the next couple weeks off but please check back after the first of the year for more weekly picture taking assignments!

Photo assignment: Crumpled

Boy oh boy has this been a busy week! So much so that neither one of us had a chance to submit a "crumpled" photo for today, (and I'm posting this later than normal!) Thank goodness our dedicated readers were on top of things and sent in some amazing photos for us all to enjoy. Next week's theme is: "time". Email your photo to: info@curiosityshoppeonline.com before next Thursday and we promise to find "time" to take some of our own next week! Thanks everyone!

We love magazines

We have always had a crazy love affair with magazines (at one point we were subscribing to 18 of them!) and it's been fun contributing to a few of our favorite publications over the past year since we opened the shoppe. You can find us in these 3 issues that just hit the stands:

My string lamp project is on the cover on the Dec/Jan issue of ReadyMade! See more (including the project instructions) here.

Check out the December issue of Sunset Magazine for some of our favorite places to visit in Northern California, along with some holiday DIY gift ideas.

Finally, the potholder project we created for design*sponge earlier this year is featured in Bust Magazine's round up of DIY holiday gifts. Hurray!!

Casting about...

The other day we jumped on the scooter for a little ride around the city, and at the end of the afternoon found ourselves roaming around some muddy, unmarked trails in Golden Gate Park. After what had already been a dreamy, surreal meander (the strobe of the setting sun through tall branches, the smell of wet earth, grass, and eucalyptus) we happened upon an odd little oasis: The San Francisco Anglers Lodge.

Built by the WPA in 1938, this spot has been home to the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club ever since. You can read all about the club’s illustrious history on their website, and seriously, it’s an impressive tale.

These angler folks are super friendly and gave us an impromptu tour of the lodge while patiently answering our many, many, many questions. We just couldn’t get enough. The fishing-themed décor, the beautifully tied flies, the wood, the library, the fireplace…so amazing!

We highly recommend you seek out this lovely, magical place. If you go on Saturday, December 13th, you can even get yourself a free casting lesson in one of the clubs world-class angler’s ponds.

Photo assignment: Nest

Thank you for these wonderful "nest" photos! We're going to put the photo assignment on hold for next week because of the holiday, but will post the theme for our 12/4 post in a couple days, so stay tuned!
