Follow That Bird!

Yesterday Derek and I hopped on the scooter and took the 49 mile scenic drive around San Francisco, which was so much fun! The drive was created as a promotion for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, and it leads you all around the city, through most of the neighborhoods, up and down hills, through parks and around lakes, along the shore... I can't think of anything we didn't see. Supposedly you can trust those famous seagull signs to tell you where to go, but we mapped our route anyway, and it's a good thing we did (we only got off track a couple times). We returned home six hours later, with stiff legs and wind burned faces, and a quick check of our odometer showed that we drove exactly 48.5 miles. Not bad! You can see more pictures from our drive here.

Cesar Chavez and Dolores, our starting point.

Grace Cathedral

North Beach

Our scooter taking a break to admire the view at Fort Point.

We stopped long enough at Giant Robot, Amoeba, and the dollar store in Japantown to pick up some loot!

Sounds like fun. What a great way to see the city and so cool that you actually took the time to do one of the fun things SF has to offer. Thanks for sharing.

Since the acqui$ition (we really and truly purchased it) of our 'cable car crossing'sign, I've been hankering to own a '49 mile scenic drive' sign.

It's SO absolutely SF!

Let me know if you ever see one for sale...

Also: A 'Chinatown' lantern streetlamp sign. You know the one.

Again - happy day scootin' round The City.

nice. seems like you stepped into a 70s movie for the day. reminds me of the red house painters--grace cathedral park is such an amazing song...aren't they from SF?
