Paper Pastries

We were visited by Margaret from the new blog paper pastries a few weeks ago, and she was kind enough to include us in her ongoing tour of "every stationery store and bakery/sweet shop in every city". Sounds like fun, right? She took a gazillion photos and highlighted some of our favorite items in her post about the shoppe. Be on the lookout for Margaret as she makes her way across the country, documenting all kinds of great shops that will definitely be on our list of places to visit someday. In addition to traveling the country in search of paper goods and sweet treats, she designs and sells her own line of stationery, available here. Thanks so much Margaret!

Introducing Robert Clarke

Sometimes artists and designers will send us samples of their work, which is such a treat- it's so much nicer to be able to hold a product in your hand rather than just look at an image online or in a catalog. Imagine how thrilled we were when we received a package from the UK containing a stack of incredible drawings of birds and dogs- half of which we wanted to keep for ourselves...

These drawings (and many many more!) by our new pal Robert Clarke are now available in the shoppe. Check it out!

Loving this woven newspaper basket project from Jess at How About Orange.

Aaaaand We're Back!

We're slowly getting back into the swing of things here in San Francisco, but wanted to take a moment to share a bit about our fantastic escape to New Hampshire last week. We were honored to be teaching at Squam Art Workshops, which is held at the Rockywold-Deephaven Camp on Squam Lake. It's impossible to describe in pictures and words what a magnificent experience it was to spend 5 days in such a beautiful, peaceful, and inspiring setting. But oh well....we'll give it a shot.

We had no idea what to expect, but were astounded when we arrived at our own private little cabin with its own private little dock. It was all perfectly charming and rustic, complete with a screened-in porch and fireplace (which was mysteriously restocked with kindling and firewood each day—the camp equivalent to a mint on your pillow, it seems).

We spent Thursday and Friday teaching workshops in an expansive, gorgeous cabin with it's own fireplace and dock: one class was dedicated to Nature-inspired crafts, while the other focused on our Wallpaper book. Our students were so wonderful and talented and eager to dive right in and make all sorts of beautiful projects. We were completely blown away by their creativity.

Our evenings were spent quietly enjoying a roaring fire and the Norman Rockwell jigsaw puzzle that we checked out from the Camp Library.

We had Saturday off and spent the morning roaming the shady wooded paths between cabins and poking our heads into all the other amazing classes that were being offered (knitting, block printing, felting, painting, sewing....). Everyone was so happy and relaxed and completely blissed-out by the activities and the setting.

After lunch we embarked on a little canoe adventure, paddling our way out to the wonderfully serene Church Island.

Obviously we were completely enthralled with the natural beauty of Squam, but it was the incredible people we met that made the experience truly unforgettable. We were so happy to have made so many amazing new friends: from Elizabeth (the founder/organizer) and her crew of fantastic helpers, to all the students and all the teachers (Betz, Marisa, Maya, Laura, Lisa, Lizzy, Sally, Lisa....) it was the connections we made with these wonderful people that made the trip truly magical. We highly encourage everyone to check out Squam Art Workshops and make plans to attend in the future. Hopefully we'll see you there!

"Hold" on hold!

We're leaving in an hour for the Squam Art Workshops in New Hampshire, and it just dawned on me that we won't have internet access for 5 days and therefore won't be able to post this week's photo assignment on Thursday!! So I leave you with the first three images that came up when I Googled the word "hold". And I will post the photo submissions on Thursday, June 11th (we're back on the 8th). Thanks everyone- see you next week!!
