We love magazines

We have always had a crazy love affair with magazines (at one point we were subscribing to 18 of them!) and it's been fun contributing to a few of our favorite publications over the past year since we opened the shoppe. You can find us in these 3 issues that just hit the stands:

My string lamp project is on the cover on the Dec/Jan issue of ReadyMade! See more (including the project instructions) here.

Check out the December issue of Sunset Magazine for some of our favorite places to visit in Northern California, along with some holiday DIY gift ideas.

Finally, the potholder project we created for design*sponge earlier this year is featured in Bust Magazine's round up of DIY holiday gifts. Hurray!!

Casting about...

The other day we jumped on the scooter for a little ride around the city, and at the end of the afternoon found ourselves roaming around some muddy, unmarked trails in Golden Gate Park. After what had already been a dreamy, surreal meander (the strobe of the setting sun through tall branches, the smell of wet earth, grass, and eucalyptus) we happened upon an odd little oasis: The San Francisco Anglers Lodge.

Built by the WPA in 1938, this spot has been home to the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club ever since. You can read all about the club’s illustrious history on their website, and seriously, it’s an impressive tale.

These angler folks are super friendly and gave us an impromptu tour of the lodge while patiently answering our many, many, many questions. We just couldn’t get enough. The fishing-themed d├ęcor, the beautifully tied flies, the wood, the library, the fireplace…so amazing!

We highly recommend you seek out this lovely, magical place. If you go on Saturday, December 13th, you can even get yourself a free casting lesson in one of the clubs world-class angler’s ponds.

Why didn't I think of this?

Oh, the brilliance of a 9-holed ABC button! I've got to get my hands on some of these! By plug & play design.

T Time!

Not that we ever need an excuse to run out and buy the Sunday Times, we look forward to it all week. But tomorrow we've got a special incentive to grab a copy. We are quoted in a fun article in the T magazine (one of our favorites!) all about the good, the bad, and the sometimes ugly of "Theme" parties. So get up early tomorrow and pick up a copy for yourself, or check out the article online.

Book signing with Natalie Chanin this Saturday!

We are so excited to welcome Natalie Chanin to the Curiosity Shoppe this Saturday! Natalie is a talented designer and owner of Alabama Chanin, a design studio in Florence, Alabama. She will be at the shoppe this Saturday from 2-5pm signing copies of her gorgeous book, Alabama Stitch.

Please stop by to say hello to Natalie, check out her book, and join us for a cookie or two. Hope to see you there! Our shoppe is located at 855 Valencia Street (between 19th and 20th) in the Mission District of San Francisco.

A little more about Alabama Stitch from our site:

The subtitle of this book sums it up nicely, “Projects and Stories Celebrating Hand-Sewing, Quilting and Embroidery for Contemporary Sustainable Style”. Filled with beautiful photography and dozens of projects, this book is a fantastic way to get started embellishing or altering your clothing. For years now, author Natalie Chanin has been making a big name for herself in the fashion world from her unlikely hometown of Florence, Alabama. Her stylish combination of traditional southern needlework with contemporary couture has transformed not just contemporary fashion, but also the lives of the women she has employed to manufacture her collections—many of whom once earned their livings from the now long-gone textile factories in the area. A wonderful story, a wonderful book.

Photo assignment: Stacks

I looooove stacks! These are great- thank you so much! Next week's theme is "cooking". Please send your images to: info@curiosityshoppeonline.com before next Thursday.
